Marriage Prayer

I was led to write this prayer for a couple-friend of ours contemplating divorce. 

Lord, God let your Holy Sprit flow freely in the hearts and homes of all individuals that find themselves in the covenant relationship between a man and a woman that you ordained and called marriage.  I come today specifically lifting up [my friends], who are contemplating divorce.  Lord, I do not know all the circumstances, but you are the all wise God who knows even the number of hairs on their heads and nothing can be hidden from you.  Lord, I ask that you go into their home and hearts today and where there is hurt - HEAL it, where there are broken hearts - MEND them,  where there is the sting of betrayal - SOFTEN it.   Lord, grant them righteous perspective.  Remind them that you are FOR marriage that you HATE divorce and that most of all you are ABLE.  ABLE to redeem and restore even in circumstances such as this.  Enable them to move forward in forgiveness and love, a Godly love.  A love that is unconditional and patient, selfless and kind and keeps no record of wrong.  Lord, they need your very presence, today and forevermore.   Lord, I pray that you would lead them to Godly counsel and whether that counsel be from friends, family or professionals  I pray that it point them to the Cross where they will find an all righteous God that will not take sides, but will take over and make all things new.  Lord, God rain down your Holy Sprit and do a new thing.  Make your grace abound and your will known.  From this day forward,  Lord, God, free them from  every thought, act, word and deed that does not align with your will or plan for marriage.  Show them the way to walk in the respect and love for one another, that you intended.  Stregthen them when the flesh wants to revert to old habits, show them the way out when they are tempted to be unloving.  Speak "new beginning" into their hearts, let them know that starting over IS possible and even in spite of their own efforts to end their marriage,  what you have put together no man can put asunder,   Lord, I come asking you to show yourself strong in this union,  breathe life into it, resurrect it as only you can.  Lord, I ask it not only for their good but for your Glory and I ask it all in the mighty, matchhless name of Jesus.  Amen.
